P.S. I Love You (post #5) FILM

Middle to the end of the film:

QUOTES
"You're alone no matter what." Said by Holly. After she had lunch with Daniel and Holly accidently called him Gerry. He was angry and left her at the table, then she ran to her mother at the pub.

"Alone or not, you gotta walk ahead." Said by Elizabeth, Holly's mother. At the walk in the park for Holly to calm down. They talked about how Holly's dad just left her when she was 14 years old (which is different from the book). Then, Holly found out that her mother hated Gerry because he reminded her so much about her husband who had left.

"Don't be afriad to be in love again." Read by Daniel and written by Gerry in the last letter that Elizabeth had given Holly at the park that day. Which was read out loud by Daniel with Holly's permission as they were in the Yankee stadium.

During the vacation, Holly, Denise, and Sharon went to go fishing. They were stranded there in the middle of the lake because their paddles somehow floated away from the boat. There was a bird's eye view for a few seconds and you can see the girls' boat in the middle of the lake. But also, the whole beautiful lake and the sky. Which enlightens the frustrating situation of being stranded in the middle and the lake. Also, the fact that Holly found out about Sharon's baby and Denise's wedding. Later on, William, a singer Holly met at the pub in Ireland, rescued them from a motor boat. As there was a point of view shot from the girls. After Holly came back from her vacation, she had ignored everybody that cared for her and looked for a job. Everytime, if there was a memory of Gerry when he was still alive, the memory ends with a dissolve transition. Holly found a job as a shoe designer. Then at the end, when Daniel and Holly was at the Yankee stadium, there were a couple of long shots of them talking about the future. That's when Holly realize that Gerry's gone forever as there was a close-up shot to her face when she quoted that Gerry's gone.

-"The best romantic comedy in a very long time." (Bill Bregoli, WESTWOOD ONE)

P. S. I Love You (post #4) FILM

Beginning to half of the film:

QUOTE
"We don't realize how privileged it is to grow old with someone." Said by Daniel. Holly and Daniel was out and they seen an old couple hugging each other.

The Film itself has enough flashbacks to when Gerry was still alive. Sometimes it seems confusing of how the flashbacks were imaged because it seems like Gerry was still alive when he wasn't. Also, whenever Holly carries around Gerry's ashes in a particular box, it is always shown in the picture. The film also shows a lot of people's facial expressions in close-up shots. For example, when Holly's mother was worried, there was a close-up of her emotion shown in her face to show how worried her mother is of Holly. Which was a week after Gerry had passed away and John, Sharon, Denise, and her mother came to surprise Holly for her 30th birthday party in her messy apartment. Also, besides the messy apartment, they came in when she was dressed in Gerry's clothes and depressingly singing. Then, the next day, when her mother found out that Gerry booked a vacation for Holly, Denise, and Sharon, she was very angry because she thought it was foolish to listen to a husband who is dead. Since Holly's mother is more involved with her life in the film, there are medium shots of them arguing about their opinions. In addition, as Holly left with her best friends to Ireland, there are specific dolly shots of them. For example, when Sharon rused into the house that they were going to stay for the vacation, she left Holly and Denise to get the bags. That's when there was a dolly shot, showing that they are lifting the luggage from their car.

(pages 140-375 the end)

SUMMARY

The 10 letters that Gerry had written for her before he had left her were lists of things. A list of things to help Holly move on with her life. Without those letters of encouragements, she wouldn't be able to realize the fact that life goes on even when her loved one's life has ended. She opened one letter every first day of the month. With Gerry's help, she was able to increase her confidence in continuing life without him. Like, finding herself a job that she actually liked this time. He even booked a vacation for her and her friends to go to Spain. For every letter that she opens, she does as what she was been told. However, she starts to make her own decisions that would benefit herself in moving on. She also started to realize how selfish she was when her best friends were moving on in life. Denise was getting married to Tom, a DJ at the karaoke competition that Holly was in. Which, Holly was the bride's maid. Also, Sharon and her husband, John, was having a baby and him Gerry. Which, Holly was the godmother. It took her a while to realize that its not all about her and life goes on. It turns out that Daniel was just her friend in the end. Then, Holly has the confidence to ask a guy, that she once rejected, out for a cup of coffee. As she moves on with her life, she doesn't grief anymore. Her life is not nightmares anymore, just millions of good memories and for her to make more good memories.

QUOTE

"In the meantime, she would just live (Ahern 375)."

REACTION

The flashbacks that unexpectedly comes along once in a while are very emotional. It goes back to when Gerry was alive. Also of how he had written the letters to Holly and how he had achieve his promises without being physically there with her. The author tells how Holly and Gerry feels in third person. Which gives the reader more understanding of the situation and how challenging it was for them. The transitioning of Holly's views in what had happened was very heart warming. The quote was the last sentence in the book. It is very powerful because the quote itself describes what Holly have learned to do. When she was living in the past, she wasn't going anywhere with her life. But then she she finally start to live in the present, she was creating her own bright future. Which was something she didn't think she could do without Gerry. Its been a long journey for her. She had found the right path to step out of her Past's picture and began living her life as a confident woman.
