Middle to the end of the film:
QUOTES
"You're alone no matter what." Said by Holly. After she had lunch with Daniel and Holly accidently called him Gerry. He was angry and left her at the table, then she ran to her mother at the pub.
"Alone or not, you gotta walk ahead." Said by Elizabeth, Holly's mother. At the walk in the park for Holly to calm down. They talked about how Holly's dad just left her when she was 14 years old (which is different from the book). Then, Holly found out that her mother hated Gerry because he reminded her so much about her husband who had left.
"Don't be afriad to be in love again." Read by Daniel and written by Gerry in the last letter that Elizabeth had given Holly at the park that day. Which was read out loud by Daniel with Holly's permission as they were in the Yankee stadium.
During the vacation, Holly, Denise, and Sharon went to go fishing. They were stranded there in the middle of the lake because their paddles somehow floated away from the boat. There was a bird's eye view for a few seconds and you can see the girls' boat in the middle of the lake. But also, the whole beautiful lake and the sky. Which enlightens the frustrating situation of being stranded in the middle and the lake. Also, the fact that Holly found out about Sharon's baby and Denise's wedding. Later on, William, a singer Holly met at the pub in Ireland, rescued them from a motor boat. As there was a point of view shot from the girls. After Holly came back from her vacation, she had ignored everybody that cared for her and looked for a job. Everytime, if there was a memory of Gerry when he was still alive, the memory ends with a dissolve transition. Holly found a job as a shoe designer. Then at the end, when Daniel and Holly was at the Yankee stadium, there were a couple of long shots of them talking about the future. That's when Holly realize that Gerry's gone forever as there was a close-up shot to her face when she quoted that Gerry's gone.
-"The best romantic comedy in a very long time." (Bill Bregoli, WESTWOOD ONE)
